Gibbs & Cox, Inc. is one of the nation’s leading independent naval architecture, marine engineering and design firms.  We are seeking a well-qualified individual for a position as the company’s Assistant Project Manager, based in Newport News, VA.  The Sustainment Manager will report to the LCS Deputy Program Manager of Sustainment, and will have demonstrated experience in management of ship engineering, design and integration projects for shipyards and/or other large industry teams such as the US Navy, other militaries, international programs, and commercial ship programs.


  • Manages technical requirements, cost and schedule of ongoing work
  • Manages maintenance strategy and development
  • Assist with developing shipyard packages
  • Prepares estimates for project proposals
  • Assists with proposal development efforts
  • Develops new business within current customer base
  • Serves as Company representatives to client
  • Prepares program progress reports as required to meet contract requirements
  • Assigns budgets to technical groups, monitors progress, and approves release of products to clients
  • Front line interface with client on all project matters
  • Develops deck-plate solutions and redline drawings to expedite execution of shipyard work
  • Programs are in the multi-million dollar range


  • Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or related engineering discipline preferred; 
  • At least 10 years of professional engineering or program management experience
  • Superior oral and written communications skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Lifecycle Engineering and U.S. Navy Planning Yard requirements
  • Experience with SHIPMAIN, Reliability Centered Maintenance, and Planned Maintenance procedures
  • Experience with U.S. Navy surface ships maintenance and modernization
