Gibbs and Cox Employee Spotlight
Katie joined Gibbs & Cox in August 2015 as a marine engineer, and is currently the aviation integration lead for one of our projects. When she isn’t fitting helicopters onto ships, she supports machinery and propulsion, lighting, and auxiliary systems studies. Previously, she assisted in the creation and delivery of an analysis of potential suppliers for ship designs. In her former job as a research assistant, she worked on modeling two-phase transient thermal systems in MATLAB. She also spent a summer running certification tests on a window air conditioner for NIST.
She graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in mechanical engineering, a minor in physics, and a lot of orange & blue t-shirts. Having grown up in Champaign, she is struggling with the concept that orange clothes are not acceptable street wear for most people. Katie now lives in Canada with her husband, Christophe Lê Quang, and is going through farmland withdrawal. In her free time she enjoys playing board games and learning how to speak like a Newfoundlander.
