Application of Noise, Shock and Vibration to Naval Shipbuilding Programs Gibbs & Cox, Inc. engineers, designers and technicians have supported every US Navy surface ship shock trial, beginning with FFG 7 and most recently DDG 81. This support has ranged from pre-trial grooming inspections of every ship, to identify potential construction or installation deficiencies for correction before the test; to In addition, Gibbs & Cox, Inc. has worked collaboratively with the US Navy to develop appropriate design and installation guidelines for ships and ship systems based on the lessons learned during these full ship trials. In addition to ship trials, Gibbs & Cox, Inc. has supported equipment noise, shock and vibration testing and analysis for the following programs: - Littoral Combat Ship
- LPD 17 class
- DDG 51 class
- LHD 8
| - JCC(X)
- T-AKE
- DD 21/DD(X) Blue Team
- DDG 51 Flight IIA

Recent Noise, Shock and Vibration Related Projects include the following: - Littoral Combat Ship - As part of the Lockheed Martin LCS Team, Gibbs & Cox, Inc. developed the Shock Hardening Plan included in the Integrated Survivability Report, and is further developing these contract deliverables during Final System Design.
- LPD 17 class - Gibbs & Cox, Inc. is a member of the Total Ship Hardening Team, providing direct support to NAVSEA and PEO Ships in shock and survivability engineering and design.
- DDG 51 class - In addition to developing the detail design of the noise, shock and vibration mitigation features of the DDG 51 class, Gibbs & Cox, Inc. continues to support PEO-Ships in the areas of shock and survivability for the class. This has included significant roles in the planning and execution of the full ship shock trials of both DDG 53 and DDG 81.
- LHD 8 - Gibbs & Cox, Inc. has supported NSWCCD-SSES in the planning and analysis of shock test results from major equipment tests, including the ship service diesel generators and the auxiliary propulsion system. In addition, Gibbs & Cox, Inc. performed an independent assessment of the longitudinal vibration of the LHD 8 propulsion system
- JCC(X) - Gibbs & Cox, Inc., as part of the Early Industry Involvement, was tasked by PEO Ships to prepare a shock and survivability tradeoff study, to assess the relative merits of hard-kill vs. soft-kill defenses, signature management and damage tolerant design features and develop recommended language to be included in the ship performance specification
